The walk home Wednesday from the
library wasn't any better or worse than before. It might have
contributed to my computer's accelerated decline, but I can't be
sure anymore. It seems to be doing okay in this exact moment. It
spent all day in the computer room with me so maybe it's just
following the example of good computers.
Anyway, because the city is an
unreliable grid, there are only three major routes home. I went the
route I like to call 8th and I, because it hinges on the intersection
of 8th Street and I Street and because it's an in-joke from my time
at The Academy.
It was a bit quicker than the rest, but
then I'm always trying to burn just a little harder for home each
time I have to walk back in. I was pretty hungry, but it suddenly
occurred to me that I had no idea where I could even use my Food
Stamps card at. The groceries stores to be certain, but I don't think
there are any grocery stores on the west side of town.
There's a corner grocer's, but it's
mostly a deluxe service station...from the outside. It's got an
espresso bar, a post office, and a gas station in it, so I guess
maybe they also sell common food that people can get without going
over the 8th St bridges to the other side of town. I'll need to go in
there one day.
Actually, there's a really promising
job opportunity and I have to mail them my resume. Like it's the 20th
Century! Barbaric!
